We’re looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to shape and deliver frontend experiences used by millions of musicians around the world.

Sheet Music Plus is a physical and digital sheet music store selling over 2.2 million licensed sheet music titles from Hal Leonard and partner publishers.

What is in it for you?

  • High load product: build tools used by millions of musicians globally - from hobbyists to professionals.
  • Remote-first culture: work from anywhere.
  • Radical ownership: you’ll see the direct impact of your work by owning decisions and contributing to product initiatives.
  • Creative synergy: collaborate with passionate technologists, musicians, and designers in a mission-driven environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain production-quality frontend features using React and TypeScript in a SSR-capable environment
  • Build frontend solutions that are architecturally sound, maintainable, and aligned with platform constraints
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Backend, and Design System teams to deliver cohesive solutions
  • Ensure clear separation of concerns between UI, business logic, and data handling
  • Proactively identify and address technical debt, discussing tradeoffs explicitly
  • Optimize frontend performance, including Core Web Vitals, rendering strategy (CSR/SSR), and bundle size
  • Participate actively in code reviews, providing and incorporating feedback in a timely and constructive manner
  • Follow established development, review, and release processes consistently

Required experience

  • 5+ years of professional frontend development experience, with at least 2 years operating independently at a senior level
  • Deep expertise in React and TypeScript, including component architecture, state management, and performance considerations
  • Strong understanding of rendering strategies (CSR vs SSR) and practical experience building SSR-compatible frontend code
  • Proven ability to design and implement maintainable frontend architecture
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently identify root causes and resolve issues
  • Experience working in large, long-lived codebases with existing technical constraints
  • Ability to deliver work within reasonable timelines, provide accurate estimates, and adapt when scope or requirements evolve
  • Solid understanding of web performance optimization (Core Web Vitals, rendering, bundle size)
  • Proficient with browser debugging and profiling tools (e.g., Chrome DevTools)
  • Strong written and spoken English (B2+)
  • Ability to work overlapping hours with US colleagues is required (till 12 pm CDT)

Professional Expectations

  • Comfortable working under ambiguity and progressing work
  • Proactive communicator who raises risks, tradeoffs, and questions early
  • Able to receive and incorporate feedback
  • Demonstrates ownership through outcomes

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with PHP-backed or hybrid frontend/backend systems
  • Experience implementing and analyzing product experiments (A/B tests)
  • Experience supporting product rebrands or large-scale redesigns
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and release workflows
  • Experience optimizing performance in high-traffic, revenue-critical environments
  • Music background or passion for music
