Hal Leonard

Operations Manager

US, Winona
Production

We are looking for an Operations Manager who will own daily operations at our Winona facility end-to-end — driving speed, accuracy, and results through hands-on leadership, continuous improvement, and a high-performance team culture.

This role sits at the intersection of operational execution and people leadership. You will own the full inbound and outbound cycle, build scalable processes, and make data-driven decisions every day. You will work closely with cross-functional teams — Sales, Procurement, IT, and Production — to ensure distribution capabilities stay ahead of business growth.

What's in it for you?

  • Real ownership from day one. You're not optimizing someone else's playbook — you're building and running the operation. Your decisions directly shape how Hal Leonard fulfills orders for musicians worldwide.
  • A role that grows with you. As Hal Leonard scales within Muse Group, so does this role. You'll have the scope to move from managing daily ops to shaping distribution strategy across the business.
  • Work that matters to musicians. Every shipment you optimize puts instruments, sheet music, and gear into the hands of players — from beginners to professionals. The impact is real and tangible.

We are actively integrating AI and automation into all areas of the business and expect candidates with mindset focused on improving efficiency and deliver a better user experience.

Key responsibilities

Lead Daily Distribution Operations

  • Own inbound and outbound processes: receiving, put-away, picking, packing, shipping, and returns.
  • Optimize warehouse layout and flow to meet SLA commitments and growth targets.
  • Drive order fulfillment excellence: on-time, in-full delivery that exceeds customer expectations.
  • Monitor stock health: inventory accuracy, turnover rates, obsolete inventory, and returns.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and compliance standards (SHEQ, OSHA, DOT) are met without compromise.

Drive Operational Excellence Through Data

  • Track daily, weekly, and monthly KPIs; use data to drive decisions and course corrections.
  • Maintain high inventory accuracy through disciplined cycle counting and process controls.
  • Achieve consistent on-time, in-full delivery through capacity planning and optimized workflows.
  • Identify inefficiencies, map processes, and implement improvements rapidly.
  • Champion automation and technology integration (AI, ERP, WMS) that creates time instead of consuming it.

Build and Lead a High-Performing Team

  • Directly manage and develop warehouse staff; build a flexible, skilled workforce.
  • Reduce turnover through engagement, coaching, and a supportive work environment.
  • Implement a unified skill matrix to increase team adaptability.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and development planning.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, mutual support, and continuous learning.

Own Strategy and Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Meet and exceed SLAs for delivery times, order accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop scalable distribution strategies aligned with business growth and peak season demands.

Required experience

  • 5+ years in distribution center, warehouse, or supply chain operations management.
  • Proven track record leading teams with direct reports — hiring, developing, retaining.
  • Deep knowledge of inbound/outbound logistics and warehouse management systems (WMS, ERP).
  • Experience implementing process improvements, automation, or technology solutions.
  • Background in safety, quality, and compliance management (OSHA, DOT, SHEQ).
  • Strong data analysis skills — Excel, BI tools, dashboards.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
