Backend Developer
We’re growing the Sheet Music Plus team and looking for a Senior Backend Developer to build a dynamic, powerful ecosystem that empowers millions of creators worldwide through the world’s largest sheet music selection.
You will play a key role in maintaining platform stability, supporting ongoing product development, and improving delivery speed and quality across the product ecosystem.
Sheet Music Plus is a physical and digital sheet music store selling over 2.2 million licensed sheet music titles.

Key responsibilities
- Design and develop monetization features and payment processing solutions using PHP, ensuring scalability, security, and performance optimization
- Build integrations with internal services (analytics, payment service, warehouse service, and other microservices) and external payment providers
- Conduct code reviews and provide technical mentorship to junior developers to maintain high code quality standards
- Participate actively in architectural discussions and design decisions, contributing to technical strategy and system improvements
- Own the full development lifecycle from requirement analysis through testing, deployment, and post-launch monitoring
- Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code that adheres to best practices and established coding standards
- Implement and optimize database queries and API calls to achieve performance targets and reduce latency
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Data, and QA teams to define requirements, validate solutions, and deliver business value
- Identify and address technical debt through refactoring initiatives and continuous process improvements
- Monitor system performance and analyze technical metrics to identify optimization opportunities and potential bottlenecks
- Investigate and resolve production issues promptly, implementing preventive measures to minimize future incidents
- Lead projects from hypothesis development to successful release, ensuring alignment with business objectives
- Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in backend development and monetization systems
Required experience
- 5+ yrs experience with modern php (8.0+) and Yii2
- E-commerce domain knowledge: order lifecycle, inventory management, pricing, shipping/tax, returns
- Payment system integrations: PSP APIs (Stripe/PayPal/Braintree), webhooks, idempotency, refunds/chargebacks
- Database optimization: profiling, indexes, query plans, caching, queues/background jobs
- Production operations: logging, monitoring, debugging in prod, safe migrations, zero-downtime deployments
- Testing: unit/integration tests
- Git workflow, code review, CI/CD
- Understanding of PCI/PII compliance basics
- English speaking skills: b2+
